Thrillers and crime are big news in YA fiction at the moment. Join 2 YA Crime authors Sam Blake and Tríona Campbell as they talk to librarian Mags Lynch about all things writing and crime related.

Vanessa Fox O'Loughlin writes crime as Sam Blake, the multiple No 1 bestseller shortlisted for Irish Crime Novel of the Year three times. Her 7th bestseller, The Mystery of Four, and her recently published YA debut, Something Terrible Happened Last Night, are both in shops now. Find out more at www.samblakebooks.com. Vanessa is the founder of Europe's biggest writing resources website, the award winning writing.ie, the Writers Ink online writing group and Murder One, Ireland's International Crime Writing Festival. Vanessa is a board member of the Society of Authors, and a fellow of the RSA. Having developed a range of initiatives in the writing world, she is a champion for emerging writers, working with agents and publishers, both in the UK and Ireland, spotting new talent. Vanessa joined the Board of the Crime Writers Association in 2021 and takes a dynamic lead in organising National Crime Reading Month.

Tríona Campbell began her professional career producing television for young audiences. She is an award-winning and Emmy-nominated producer and the creator of Gamer Mode, a TV series about video games. Triona was also an EU Ambassador for female entrepreneurs. Her passion for storytelling led her into writing. She is a graduate of the M.Phil. in creative writing at Trinity College. She was supported by Words Ireland as part of the National Mentoring Programme in 2020 (mentored by the amazing Louise O Neill). Triona’s debut young adult series, A Game Of Life Or Death, was acquired in a three-book deal by Scholastic UK in auction. Described as Ready Player One meets Black Mirror, A Game of Life or Death is a contemporary thriller with a high-stakes speculative twist and was published in February 2023.

Mags Lynch has over 20 years’ experience working in Libraries.  She enjoys books from many different genres (although recently has become quite the connoisseur in picture books).   Her real passion is talking to people about books that they enjoy (making her own “To be Read” pile even bigger) and sharing the love of reading.
