Described by the Guardian film critic as a 'superbly scary country horror', The Hole in the Ground is 1hr 30mins in duration. After a screening of the film, the film's writer, Stephen Shields will be interviewed by librarian Ian Dorman and questions will be invited from the audience.
Stephen Shields is an Irish screenwriter whose first feature film, The Hole in the Ground debuted at the Sundance Film Festival 2019 where it was acquired by A24 for release in North America to great reviews. He co-wrote the screenplay with the film’s director Lee Cronin. His second feature film, a currently untitled Universal monster horror thriller is currently filming with the directing duo Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett) who recently had a major hit rebooting the Scream franchise directing. The film is scheduled for release next spring.
Stephen had previously been a comedy writer for such RTE series such as The Republic of Telly for which he was the longest-serving writer as well as Des Bishop’s This is Ireland and Callan’s Kicks.
