Join host Muireann O’Connell as she discusses two high profile murder cases with Pat Marry (Murder at Lordship investigates the murder of Detective Adrian Donohoe 2013) and Mick Clifford (Who Killed Una Lynskey covers the murder of Una Lynskey in 1971).

Over the course of his career, Pat Marry worked on many of the country’s most high profile murder investigations including the murders of Marlynn Rynn, Mary Gough, Rachel Reilly and Irene White. The final murder that he investigated prior to his retirement in 2018 was the Capital Murder of his colleague Detective Adrian Donohoe. In 2019 following his retirement Penguin Ireland published his book, The Making of a Detective. The book was nominated in the ‘Non-Fiction’ category of the An Post Books Awards in 2019. The book has sold nearly 5,000 copies in Ireland. The book was turned into a series of podcasts entitled ‘The Making of a Detective’ in conjunction with Urban Media and the Irish Sun. Nine episodes have been released and have been very well received. The podcast reached the number one spot in the Apple Ireland Podcasts True Crime category for a number of weeks.

Pat was approached by RTE to make a documentary based on aspects of his book. This led to him to work with Rare Productions on, so far, two programmes entitled ‘The Crime I Can’t Forget’. These programmes focused on the murders of Mary Gough and Rachel Reilly respectively. He will commence working on a third programme in the series shortly.

In 2023, in partnership with journalist Robin Schiller, Pat undertook to write the book on the harrowing story of Detective Adrian Donohoe’s murder at Lordship credit union on the 25th of January 2013. The book, titled Murder at Lordship, covers the night of the murder right through to the conviction of Aaron Brady for the capital murder. Pat is presently working on another book covering the story of Irene White murdered in 2005.

Mick Clifford has worked in journalism for thirty years, mainly in print but also at various points in broadcasting. He has written five books, three non fiction and two crime novels and has co-written three other non fiction books. HIs current book Who Killed Una Lynskey covers how a tragic event over fifty years ago reverberated down through Irish policing and the criminal justice system. He is the Special Correspondent for the Irish Examiner where he also presents a weekly podcast.
